Yin Yoga & Pranayama
EMBODYING THE AUTUMN SELF
with Michelle Baker
Yin Yoga, especially when paired with pranayama practices, can be one of the most impactful practices for leaning into the body’s innate and essential connection with Nature and the elemental and seasonal selves.
Autumn is a time when the natural process of turning inward is initiated — it’s as though nature is asking us to enter into this place of deepening into our bodily experience of being on earth. And that’s exactly what we’ll embark on.
The intention for this session is to guide you through a sequence of postures and pranayama to embody the autumn self by way of tending to our autumn organs: the lungs, large intestine (digestion) and skin — our autumn emotions: grief and reverence — and our autumn virtues: letting go, inspiration, self-worth, and acceptance.
Warm welcome to Embodying the Autumn Self!
No prior asana or pranayama experience is needed - Michelle can adjust to all levels needed.
The Practices
YIN YOGA is a slower-paced style of yoga based on traditional Chinese medicine and the meridians. Throughout the class you’ll be intentionally guided through a sequence of postures for the body to yield and rest into for longer periods of time. Michelle often weaves in other yin-appropriate practices to help support the body, including myofascial and somatic release techniques and meditation.
Within this particular practice we welcome moments of stillness to help you feel the physicality of the poses and land into the connective tissue, the bones, the nervous system, and the organs to help dissolve tension, evolve our patience, and hydrate the fascia — eventually releasing the pose with grace. Over time, a Yin practice can help to stabilize and soften stiff and stressed bodies while enriching the circulation of oxygen and blood.
Adding intentional PRANAYAMA (breath) TECHNIQUES to the mix allows us to move stagnant energy before settling into the rich history of the body.
No prior asana experience is needed to join this class. All are welcome to join.
